The Scoop:
Back in April, we decided to plan a summer vacation in Provincetown. Our usual pet-friendly spot was booked for the week we had chosen to visit P-town, so we searched the web and found Christopher's By The Bay. This bed & breakfast had the available dates, so we gave a call to inquire about the room and amenities. In talking with the owner, he told us that there were two pet-friendly rooms. After he explained that the "Picasso" room had plenty of space for two adults and two Shelties, we went ahead and made a credit card down payment of 50% to book the room for four nights in July.
When we arrived, we signed the paperwork, paid the rest of the bill by credit card and one of the owners showed us to our room. We were shocked to find a room that looked as if it was built around the bed. The door barely cleared the bed post and there was a very small closet and dresser for our clothes. The bathroom was the best feature, but was in dire need of a makeover. My partner put some of his clothes in the dresser, and we piled some of our necessities in the closet. The rest of our luggage was piled up in the small space at the foot of the bed. We immediately inquired as to whether there was another room which would accomodate us. We were told there was nothing available.
We experienced a restless night that including slamming into the wall whenever one of us turned sideways on the bed. The next morning, we asked the owners if they would work with us to give back at least a part of our money, as we would have to leave. They said absolutely not, that we had booked for that long a period of time and we had to pay for it. We explained our point of view; that the information about the room had been a misrepresentation and it was unfair to expect us to pay for the four nights. They finally said they would advertise the room and credit us if any of the nights were booked by someone else. It has been over a week, and as of yet, there has been nothing credited to our account.
We would advise anyone, especially couples with animals, to stay away from Christopher's By The Bay.
Pros:
One owner, Jim, was very pleasant when we were checking in. The entryway and lobby were well-maintained.
Cons:
Extremely tight, cramped quarters; room in need of TLC; very limited breakfast.
